---
Thalovant Voice is the room client for voice setups.

Install it on the computer that should listen and speak, then return to the setup link so the client can pair.

## Getting The Software

| You want it on | Where it comes from |
| --- | --- |
| A Mac or Windows PC | The **setup page** in the console offers the download once you create a connection. |
| Linux | The same setup page gives one command that installs, pairs and starts it. |
| A phone | The app is not on the Play Store yet. Ask [support](/account/get-support/) for the current build. |
| A browser | Nothing to install — a public hub answers in the browser at [Explore](https://dash.thalovant.com/explore). |

The setup page appears right after you create a connection, so create the
connection first and the download follows.

## Where Things Go

Install Thalovant Voice on the computer that should listen and speak. Installing doesn't pair anything by itself. From version 0.3.1 the app pairs when you sign in with your Thalovant account: your browser opens the dashboard, you approve the computer, and it joins your hub. A setup link from Connections still works too. On Linux the quickest path is to copy the install command from the setup or download page, and on a headless machine the same command, pasted over SSH with the setup link included, is the whole install.

## Which Computer, Which Setup Link

Confirm:

- you're on the computer that should run voice;
- the setup link is still available;
- you can install apps or run a terminal command on that computer.

If the setup link expired, create a new setup link from [Connections](/concepts/clients/) before reinstalling.

## Choose Your Platform

    Download the macOS app, open it, then return to the setup link.

    Download the Windows setup app, run it, then return to the setup link.

    Copy the Linux command, paste it in Terminal, and keep the setup page open.

    Copy the headless command and include the setup link when you paste it over SSH.

## Steps

1. **Open the setup link.** It chooses the best install action for the current computer.
2. **Install Thalovant Voice.** Use the download or command shown for your platform.
3. **Return to the setup page.** The setup link handles pairing and credentials.
4. **Open Thalovant Voice.** Use the button again after installation if nothing opened the first time.
5. **Wait for connected.** Keep the app running until Dashboard shows the first heartbeat.

## Linux Commands

For Linux desktop setup, copy the Linux install command from the setup page or the downloads page. Paste it once in Terminal.

For headless Linux, copy the headless command and replace the placeholder with the setup link before running it over SSH.

The setup link inside a copied command is private. Treat the whole command like a password.

## Local Identity Security

After pairing, Thalovant Voice stores the local identity and connection metadata in the current user's app config folder. The app writes those files as private files and repairs owner-only permissions when possible.

On Linux and macOS, don't replace those files with symlinks or group/world-readable copies. If you manually move an identity file for recovery, run `chmod 600` before starting Thalovant Voice.

## If Nothing Opens After Install

| Symptom | First check |
| --- | --- |
| Nothing opens after install | Return to the setup page and choose **Open Thalovant Voice** again. |
| Linux command copied but no client appears | Paste the full command once and keep the setup page open. |
| Setup link is unavailable | Create a new setup link from Connections. |
| Client claimed but stays offline | Keep Thalovant Voice running and check Dashboard after the first heartbeat. |
| Identity file was copied manually | Confirm it is a real private file, then run `chmod 600` before starting the app. |
| Wrong computer paired | Recreate the connection and use the new setup link only on the intended computer. |

  Don't share setup links, copied setup commands, connection files, tokens, or secrets in public support.

## Ready When

Thalovant Voice is ready when:

- the app is installed on the intended computer;
- the setup link was claimed once by that computer;
- Dashboard shows the expected connection;
- Topology shows the client when live status is available;
- access rules match what the voice client should be allowed to do.
